Amsterdam · 32–40 hours per week · starting in 2027 · salary scale 9
At act legal, we believe the best legal services are created when professional expertise and technology reinforce each other. We are already well on our way when it comes to AI. We use Legora for legal work, Copilot across the firm, and Claude to design and test new applications. We have workflows in place for areas including M&A, Employment Law and Insolvency Law, as well as our own intake app, an AI policy framework and an online learning programme for the entire firm.
Now is the time to embed these developments in our organisation and take them to the next level by building a dedicated team. That is why we are looking for two Legal Engineers to further develop our AI and legal tech programme, working closely with our lawyers and business support teams.
What will you do?
- You will be the bridge between legal practice and technology. Together with our lawyers and business support teams, you will look at how they work, identify where things can be done smarter and make sure those improvements are actually put into practice. You will also work on projects with engineers from our offices outside the Netherlands.
- You map out work processes, such as matter intake, contract review, due diligence and knowledge management, and translate them into practical AI solutions.
You build solutions yourself, including prompts, templates, workflows, agents and integrations with our existing systems. - You ensure that legal knowledge, such as precedents, templates and playbooks, is well structured so that AI solutions can be scaled and reused.
- You select and implement legal tech and AI tools and manage relationships with vendors.
You drive adoption: you train colleagues, act as the first point of contact for AI-related questions and organise sessions in which ideas from legal practice are turned into working solutions. - You test quality and usability before a solution goes live, then improve it based on feedback and actual use. You make the impact visible and measurable, including time saved per application and the development of AI skills across the firm. For new applications, you prepare a business case so that management can make well-informed decisions.
- You maintain an overview of all AI applications: who owns them, what data goes into them, which model they use and which risk category they fall into.
- You ensure that AI is used responsibly, with due consideration for confidentiality, legal professional privilege, the GDPR and the EU AI Act.
- You stay on top of developments in legal tech and AI and advise the firm on what our next steps should be.
Who are you?
- You have completed a university of applied sciences or research university degree, for example in law, computer science, information science or a combination of these fields.
- You have 2–5 years of experience in legal tech, AI, process automation or IT consulting, preferably within a legal or professional services environment.
- You understand how lawyers work, or you are curious and motivated to learn quickly.
You have hands-on experience with generative AI and are comfortable building solutions yourself. - Experience with Power Automate, low-code tools, Python or APIs is a plus.
- You understand that successful adoption is often more challenging than designing the solution itself. You have previously helped colleagues adopt a new tool or way of working.
- You are a natural connector: you can communicate just as easily with a lawyer without a technical background as with an engineer, inspire an intern and challenge a vendor when needed.
- You are fluent in spoken and written Dutch and English.
We are deliberately looking to hire two colleagues with different profiles. Do you recognise yourself in one of the profiles below? We would like to hear from you. Don't meet every requirement? We still encourage you to apply. To us, motivation and potential are just as important as experience.
- The lawyer with a passion for tech: You have a legal background and understand how lawyers work. Your main focus will be on processes, workflows in Legora, training and adoption.
- The builder with an affinity for law: You have a technical background and enjoy building solutions yourself. You will manage and further develop our own applications, such as our intake app, and build integrations with our systems, including iManage. Experience with the technologies behind these applications is a significant plus: TypeScript and Next.js; Azure, including Container Apps, Entra ID for authentication, PostgreSQL and Key Vault; infrastructure as code with Terraform; and version control and automated checks via GitHub.
What do we offer?
- A gross monthly salary of between €4,416 and €6,858 based on full-time employment, plus 8% holiday allowance. Your exact salary will depend on your experience.
- A role where you can make a genuine impact. You will join an AI programme that is already up and running and help shape its next phase together with the firm.
- The freedom and budget to test and implement new tools.
- Access to the international act legal network, where you can exchange knowledge and experiences with colleagues in other countries.
