Software & AI Engineer (m/f/d) - Automation and AI Tools

We Build Our Own Legal Tech Tools — AI-Powered and Built for Real-World Practice

Location: Frankfurt am Main, Germany | Employment: Full-time | Start date: As soon as possible

act legal is an international law firm with offices throughout Europe. The tools our lawyers use are built in Frankfurt, on a platform we developed ourselves specifically for this purpose. We are looking for someone to help us take the next step and build on this foundation.

What We Work With

  • Our own platform, where multiple coding agents work in parallel across servers, Macs, Windows machines and iPhones.

  • Custom-built tools and interfaces that connect these agents to the firm's systems.

  • An end-to-end workflow from prototype to release across all devices.

This enables us to build dashboards, apps and automations for the entire firm, ranging from marketing event tools to dictation apps for our lawyers — often within just a few days.

What You'll Do

  • Optimize existing processes and develop new AI-powered tools for both internal and external use.

  • Gather requirements from across the firm and deliver tools that work in day-to-day practice within just a few days.

  • Bring your own ideas. If they have potential, you'll build them yourself.

  • Hit the ground running with projects already in the pipeline, including an AI-powered presentation builder, an event mailing tool that makes it easy to create invitations with registration forms, and a “Social Plan Calculator” that turns established Excel models used in employment law restructuring into a web app.

  • Build web apps, dashboards, Excel solutions and automations — from the first concept through to deployment and operation.

  • Work primarily with Matthias Kühn and our IT team. Requirements come from partners and teams across Europe.

What You Bring

  • Something you've built yourself and can show us.

  • Experience orchestrating teams of multiple agents working on a project in parallel, with the ability to spot immediately when one of them is going off track. We don't mind which harness you use.

  • Hands-on experience with MCP, hooks and subagents — or equivalent tools you've built yourself.

  • An intuitive understanding of APIs and practical, day-to-day experience knowing which model and reasoning level to use for which use case, and how to chain models into workflows. We build almost everything ourselves, so staying up to date is part of the job.

  • A systems mindset, with logs, tests, releases and rollbacks.

  • Web technologies, Python, Linux and Git in your toolbox. Your degree subject is secondary.

  • A careful approach to data, because we work with confidential client information.

What We Offer

  • A tech setup you can configure yourself, backed by a gigabit internet connection.

  • Depending on the project, access to our in-house AI infrastructure, including an NVIDIA DGX Station (GB300) and additional machines equipped with RTX PRO 6000 GPUs.

  • A budget for all major AI providers, plus your own Claude Max account.

  • A team that has been building productively with these tools for months, with support all the way up to the partnership.

  • What you build today can be used by the firm tomorrow.

  • Freedom to choose your tools and working methods. Results are what matter to us.

  • An open-minded, international law firm culture and a friendly, close-knit working environment.

  • A seat right in the middle of things, alongside the lawyers who use your tools. Working from home is the exception here — we value close collaboration and short lines of communication.

  • An excellent salary.

“A lot is expected of you, but if you have good ideas, you are also given everything you need to make them happen. Decision-making processes are extremely short. If you present an idea that is well thought out and thoroughly researched, you can often have a project and its budget approved by the very next day.” — Matthias Kühn

How to Apply

Send us a link to something you've built, along with two sentences about it. If your repository contains a CLAUDE.md or AGENTS.md file, even better. During the interview, you'll show us your setup, and we'll show you ours.

P.S. On your first day, you'll type /init.
